Thomas Rowlandson, A Doleful Disaster, or Miss Fubby Fatermin’s Wig Caught Fire, late 18th century - early 19th century, print. Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco
We’re all about wigs lately, ever since we stumbled upon Thomas Rowlandson’s incredible print showing Miss Fubby Fatermin, aka Miss Chubby Fatwoman, whose wig has caught fire. Notice how her breasts seem to spill right out of her dress? (as does the younger woman in yellow) What a scene! Rowlandson was one of the great satirists and his prints are sure to bring a smile to your face.
