Any event hosted byRed Bull promises to be an exhilarating body-mind rush that will truly give you wings. Last night, the LA-based street art gallery called Lab Art hosted “Red Bull Curates: The Road to Basel,” a presentation of canvas-wrapped Red Bull coolers designed by 20 of the hottest names in Los Angeles street art. The goal: be among the semi-finalists from LA, Chicago, New York and Miami, who together will form a group show at Art Basel in Miami later this year.
The scene at Lab Art was a mix of cray cray hipster cool with artsy fartsy “high” fashion (and a few DB’s to complete the mix). The hosted bars, stocked with Red Bull of course, combined with music by DJ MORSE CODE ensured that the evening remained lively and chill. One brilliant aspect of the evening was that art by several of the artists selected to decorate Red Bull coolers hung on various walls around the gallery, and thus I discovered several personalities that I will most certainly follow now.
Here are a few highlights of my fave works from last night’s event, in no particular order.
Benjamin Alejandro “Art is making money,” Red Bull Curates 2012
Bryan Snyder “The Three Stooges,” Red Bull Curates 2012
Thank You X “Not For Sale,” Red Bull Curates 2012

T$F “If You Are Soft Get Lost! / Mosquitoes, Gnats, Craneflies, Mide, & the Status Factor,” Red Bull Curates 2012
Artist’s featured in Red Bull Curates included Lydia Emily, Leba, Nathan Spoor, Codak, Destroy All Design, Benjamin Alejandro, Thank You X, Hans Haveron, Locust, Gregory Siff, Jules Muck, Louis Carreon, Ernesto Yerena Montejano, Septerhed, Smear, Cyrcle, KH No. 7, Bryan Snyder, Mear One, Kophns One, Mar and T$F.
And to those out there who feel proprietary towards the word “curate,” get over it!
